Colourful photography in autumn

It's that time of year again, the days have become shorter and the temperatures a little cooler. Autumn is here and shows itself in all its colourful splendour with colourful autumn leaves or just the opposite, mystical and foggy. Ideal for taking photos, because there is certainly something for everyone. Here are a few tips and tricks:

1. getting up early pays off

There is a well-known saying "the early bird gets the worm". This fits perfectly for the autumn season. Because in the early morning, autumn shows its golden side. Early risers are rewarded with mystical fog or wonderful light conditions and a golden, warm light temperature.

2nd walk in the fog

Even if it is much more pleasant to go for a walk in fine weather, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to pack your camera and head outside into the fog. The fog transforms nature into a mystical landscape. If the sun then fights its way through the fog, it shimmers mysteriously in a golden yellow colour. The best way to capture this natural spectacle is to focus the camera manually, work with backlighting and control the exposure manually. It is best to use a tripod, set a long exposure time and then adjust the white balance.

3. photography in the forest

If you want to capture the colourful autumn leaves in the woods, it's best to look for your subject around midday. This is when the sun is at its highest, which leads to harsh shadows even in autumn, but makes the colours appear all the more vibrant as the foliage receives the most sunlight. The play of backlighting and rays of sunlight shining through the branches also create wonderful motifs and produce beautiful autumn shots.

4. motif search

The autumn season offers so many wonderful motifs. Pay attention to the details. You will find numerous interesting motifs, such as spider webs covered in dew, dewdrops on grass and leaves, chestnuts on colourful autumn leaves, mushrooms or leaves blown by the wind. There are countless possibilities. Try a different, new perspective. The camera settings are always important and must be selected differently depending on the subject.

5. select the correct camera setting

The correct camera setting is of course the be-all and end-all for a great shot. With a few small tips, even a layman can quickly take a beautiful picture: You can capture the play of autumn leaves in the wind beautifully with a long exposure. If you find a particularly beautiful autumn leaf, place it on a calm background that provides contrast. For example, on a gravel path, a lush green meadow or a carpet of leaves in a different colour. With such individual leaves, it is also worth getting really close to the motif. This can also be done well with a smartphone using the close-up motif programmes. If you are equipped with a camera, you can set a long focal length and also use the macro lens. As even the slightest movement of the camera will take the leaf out of focus in these shots, it is advisable to take a small tripod with you.

Particularly beautiful pictures are also created when you can photograph a leaf against the light. This shows the leaf veins and the different colours from their best side. If, for example, you want to photograph the shiny dewdrops on grasses and let the foreground and background sink into a beautiful blur, set a long focal length and a large aperture. Remember to always take several shots of all subjects and set the camera to RAW. This way you can take your time at home to define your best pictures and optimise the colours if necessary.

Once you have found the most beautiful pictures, you can order them from printolino as canvas pictures, dibond pictures or acrylic glass pictures, for example.
